Review – Nobody 2 (2025)
After surprising audiences in 2021 with a mix of sharp humor, gritty action, and Bob Odenkirk’s against-type performance, Nobody quickly became a cult hit. With Nobody 2, director Timo Tjahjanto (best known for his visceral action work) doubles down on what made the original great, while expanding the scope into a family-centered action thriller. The result? A bloody, explosive sequel that manages to balance heart and chaos, even if it occasionally veers into excess.
Performances
Bob Odenkirk once again shines as Hutch Mansell. He’s not the indestructible action hero archetype — instead, his weariness, broken promises, and vulnerability make him compelling. His chemistry with Connie Nielsen grounds the story, and Nielsen herself is given more agency here, especially in the third act when Becca literally saves the day. Christopher Lloyd and RZA add charm and grit as Hutch’s unconventional allies, while Sharon Stone brings icy menace as crime boss Lendina.
Action & Direction
Tjahjanto delivers fight scenes that are both brutal and inventive, making full use of the amusement park setting for booby-trap mayhem, gunfights, and explosions. The choreography leans into messy realism — Hutch doesn’t glide through combat, he survives it through grit and desperation. Highlights include the boat ambush and the climactic siege at the amusement park, which recalls the “Home Alone for adults” energy of the first film but on a much larger scale.
Story & Themes
While the plot follows familiar beats — family in danger, reluctant hero pulled back into violence — Nobody 2 deepens the emotional stakes. Hutch’s attempts to balance his violent past with being a husband and father give the film an emotional core. The recurring theme of “Wherever you go, there you are” underscores Hutch’s struggle: he cannot outrun who he is, no matter how hard he tries.
Nobody 2 (2025) – Full Story
After the events of the first film, Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) continues working as an assassin for The Barber to pay off his debt for destroying a Russian obshchak. The life of violence has taken a toll on his family relationships, leaving him distant from his wife, Becca (Connie Nielsen), and his children, Brady and Sammy. Exhausted from his latest assignment, Hutch asks The Barber for a break, who reluctantly agrees but warns him, “Wherever you go, there you are.”
Hoping for a peaceful respite, Hutch plans a family vacation to Plummerville, a town with a quaint amusement park. He promises Becca that he will leave his violent past behind, at least for the duration of the trip. However, trouble finds them almost immediately. While at an arcade, Brady clashes with Max, a local teenage bully, after Max destroys a plush toy meant for Sammy. The altercation escalates when a park employee slaps the back of Sammy’s head. Hutch tries to remain calm but instinctively retaliates, brutally beating the employee. This draws the ire of Wyatt, Max’s father and the amusement park owner, as well as Abel, a corrupt sheriff with connections to organized crime.
The following day, while on a boat, Hutch is ambushed by Abel’s men and loses part of his pinky finger. He soon learns from his brother Harry (RZA) that Plummerville sits on a smuggling route, while The Barber reveals that the route belongs to Lendina, a ruthless crime boss, whom Abel answers to. Wyatt is forced to pay off Lendina to keep his park and family safe. When Wyatt informs Lendina that this is his final payment, she retaliates by having Abel kidnap Max as leverage. Hutch initially tells Abel that he and his family will leave town to avoid further conflict, but upon learning of Max’s kidnapping, he decides to intervene. Hutch burns a stash of Lendina’s money and drugs, destroying her warehouse in a fiery explosion and leaving Abel permanently scarred.
Hutch and Max retreat to an old lodge, where Brady and Max reconcile. Becca, frustrated by Hutch’s inability to escape violence, insists he must fix the situation but reassures him she is not leaving. Hutch reconciles with Wyatt, and together with Harry and David, they prepare the amusement park for Lendina’s arrival. Abel is executed by Lendina for being an inconvenience, while her men swarm the park. Hutch and Wyatt manage to eliminate most of the henchmen, Harry takes out the rest at the lodge, and David is temporarily incapacitated before recovering in time to detonate explosives across the park. Lendina herself is neutralized when Becca fires a tranquilizer dart directly into her eye, and the final explosion wipes out her remaining forces.
In the aftermath, Hutch and Becca are interrogated in an undisclosed hangar by an unknown authority, who orders their release. The film closes on a reflective note, with the family watching a visual album of their chaotic, yet bonding, vacation. While Hutch’s past continues to shadow him, the story ends with a sense of family resilience and a hint that the life of Nobody may never fully let him go.
