Baaghi 3 (2020) – Movie Review

Overview:

Directed by Ahmed Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Baaghi 3 is the third installment in the high-octane action franchise starring Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor, and Riteish Deshmukh. A remake of the Tamil film Vettai (2012), the movie carries forward the essence of brotherhood while blending it with over-the-top action set pieces, international backdrops, and emotional drama. Despite its flaws, it stands out as a crowd-pleaser for action enthusiasts.

Plot:

The film revolves around Ronnie (Tiger Shroff), a fearless young man who has spent his life protecting his timid elder brother Vikram (Riteish Deshmukh). Though Ronnie himself is no stranger to trouble, he lets Vikram become an IPS officer, secretly handling all his dangerous encounters from the shadows. Things take a dark turn when Vikram is sent on an assignment to Syria, only to be kidnapped by the ruthless terrorist Abu Jalal Gaza.

Ronnie sets out on a daring mission across borders to rescue his brother, accompanied by his love interest Siya (Shraddha Kapoor) and a quirky helper Akhtar Lahori. The film then dives into a series of high-voltage action sequences, brutal combat scenes, and emotional moments as Ronnie fights against an entire army to save his brother. In the climax, Vikram finally overcomes his fears, fights back, and together with Ronnie defeats Abu Jalal, restoring peace and family honor.

Performances:

  • Tiger Shroff once again proves that action is his strongest suit. His stunts, agility, and fight choreography are the backbone of the film. However, his emotional range still feels limited.
  • Riteish Deshmukh provides the heart of the story. His timid yet emotional portrayal of Vikram gives the film a touch of vulnerability amidst all the action.
  • Shraddha Kapoor as Siya adds glamour and energy, though her character is underutilized.
  • Ankita Lokhande makes a brief appearance as Ruchi, Vikram’s wife, while Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma shine in supporting roles.

Direction & Technical Aspects:

Ahmed Khan focuses heavily on large-scale action. The Serbian landscapes convincingly replicate the Syrian war zone, adding grit to the setting. Action directors Ram-Lakshman and Kecha Khamphakdee ensure that every fight feels cinematic, though at times excessive.

The script, however, falters. The emotional bond between the brothers is touching, but the screenplay lacks depth, and dialogues often feel forced. The narrative struggles between family drama and exaggerated action spectacle, leaving the film tonally uneven.

The music, composed by multiple artists including Vishal–Shekhar and Tanishk Bagchi, delivers chartbuster tracks like Dus Bahane 2.0 and Bhankas, which became popular but somewhat distracted from the intensity of the story.

Reception & Box Office:

Released on 6 March 2020, Baaghi 3 received mixed reviews. Critics praised its stunning action and cinematography but criticized its weak storyline and direction. Unfortunately, its theatrical run was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, limiting its potential box-office earnings. Still, it managed to gross around ₹137 crore worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2020.

Verdict:

Baaghi 3 is a film made for die-hard Tiger Shroff fans and action lovers. While the story doesn’t offer much novelty, the film thrives on jaw-dropping stunts, explosive sequences, and the emotional core of brotherhood. If you can overlook the weak writing, it serves as an entertaining masala action film with plenty of adrenaline-pumping moments.

Rating: 3/5

Full Story of Baaghi 3

Ranveer “Ronnie” Charan Chaturvedi (Tiger Shroff) and his elder brother Vikram (Riteish Deshmukh) grow up in Agra under the protection of their father, Charan Chaturvedi, a strict police officer. After their father’s death, young Ronnie promises to always protect Vikram. From childhood, Ronnie has been fearless and strong, while Vikram is timid and soft-hearted. Whenever Vikram faces trouble, Ronnie rushes in, fighting off bullies or criminals for him.

Years later, Vikram is offered a job in the Indian Police Service. Ronnie, despite being more capable, refuses the post due to his track record of violence and multiple FIRs filed against him. Instead, he convinces Vikram to accept the job, promising to always stand by him. Soon, Vikram becomes a respected officer, but everyone is unaware that it’s Ronnie who secretly beats criminals and saves victims in Vikram’s name.

Meanwhile, Ronnie falls in love with Siya (Shraddha Kapoor), a lively and bold young woman. Their relationship brings some lighthearted moments to the story. Eventually, Siya’s sister Ruchi marries Vikram, binding the two families together.

One day, Vikram is assigned to travel to Damascus, Syria, for what seems like routine paperwork. Ronnie insists on staying in touch with him. On arrival, Vikram video calls Ronnie, but during the call, he is ambushed and kidnapped by heavily armed men working for Abu Jalal Gaza, a ruthless terrorist leader feared across the region.

Ronnie is shaken but determined. With Siya by his side, he travels to Syria to rescue Vikram. Upon reaching, they find that the local police refuse to help. Instead, they meet Akhtar Lahori (Vijay Varma), a witty but resourceful man who agrees to assist them. Together, they track down Vikram’s hotel and gather clues, including his broken phone.

During their search, they cross paths with one of Abu Jalal’s henchmen, who turns out to be Abu Jalal’s own brother. After a tense chase, the henchman promises to help but is killed by a speeding truck. Siya retrieves his phone, using it to lure another goon named IPL (Inder Paheli Lamba).

Meanwhile, Abu Jalal learns of his brother’s death and vows revenge. At the arranged meeting, a police officer unexpectedly helps Ronnie capture IPL, though Abu Jalal manages to escape. Fearing betrayal, Abu Jalal orders his men to kill IPL, but Ronnie saves him. Grateful, IPL switches sides and begins assisting Ronnie.

The battle intensifies as Ronnie faces off against Abu Jalal’s private army. Explosive chases, brutal fights, and ambushes follow, showcasing Ronnie’s unmatched combat skills. However, the mission takes a tragic turn when IPL sacrifices himself to ensure Ronnie can reach Abu Jalal’s hideout.

Ronnie finally confronts Abu Jalal, who agrees to release Vikram and the hostages but double-crosses them by capturing Siya. In the climactic showdown, Ronnie fights Abu Jalal’s men fiercely. But when Ronnie is stabbed and beaten badly, Vikram, usually fearful and weak, is overcome with rage. Seeing his brother’s suffering, Vikram finally finds his inner strength. He breaks free from his cell, fights with brutal force, and kills Abu Jalal by impaling him on steel rods.

As Ronnie lies unconscious, Siya and Vikram try to revive him. Just when Abu Jalal makes a last attempt to strike, Ronnie rises and finishes him for good.

The trio—Ronnie, Vikram, and Siya—return home to Agra. Vikram is honored for his bravery as an officer, while Ronnie remains the silent protector in the shadows, having fulfilled his lifelong promise to always stand by his brother.
