Full Story: Ballerina (2025)

In the violent underworld of assassins, Eve Macarro is born into bloodshed. The daughter of two killers—Javier, a respected Ruska Roma member, and his mysterious wife from a fanatical group known only as the Cult—Eve's life is marred by tragedy early on. Her mother's death at the hands of the Cult forces Javier and young Eve into hiding. Years later, when the Cult comes to claim her, they slaughter her protectors and fatally wound Javier, who sacrifices himself to help her escape.

With nowhere else to go, Winston, manager of the New York Continental, delivers Eve to the Director of the Ruska Roma. She is taken in, trained in both ballet and assassination under the strict mentorship of the Director and her chief enforcer, Nogi. One day, she crosses paths with John Wick, who urges her to abandon her path of vengeance. But Eve is determined, and after killing a fellow trainee in her final test, she earns her place among the Ruska Roma’s elite.

Now a professional bodyguard, Eve completes a successful assignment protecting heiress Katla Park, and shortly after, finishes a contract elsewhere. But a deadly surprise awaits—she is attacked by an assassin she later learns is a Cultist. The encounter reawakens her trauma and thirst for revenge. However, when she confronts the Director, she’s forbidden from pursuing the Cult, as a fragile truce exists between them.

Defying orders, Eve returns to the Continental, where Charon grants her a secret meeting with Winston. He tips her off about Daniel Pine, a high-value Cult defector hiding at the Prague Continental. Eve travels to Prague, only to find that Daniel is not alone—he’s protecting his daughter, Ella. A hit squad led by deadly Cultist Lena is also there, waiting to collect the bounty on Daniel’s head.

A bloody skirmish ensues within the supposedly neutral Continental. Eve and Daniel fight together, but he is fatally shot by Dex, Lena’s right-hand man. Lena kidnaps Ella and leaves Eve beaten and wounded. In a rare move, the Prague Continental staff spare Eve for her honor during the confrontation and execute the mercenaries who violated hotel sanctity.

Desperate, Eve visits arms dealer Frank for supplies. The Cult tracks her, and after surviving a vicious ambush, Frank helps her trace the Cult’s stronghold to the isolated Austrian town of Hallstatt. But Hallstatt is no sanctuary—it is a town of assassins, all loyal to the Cult. Eve fights her way through the traps and residents before being captured and brought before the Cult’s enigmatic leader: the Chancellor.

In a shocking revelation, the Chancellor tells Eve that Daniel Pine was his son—making Ella his granddaughter. He also reveals another twist: Lena is Eve’s older sister. Javier had fled with only Eve, believing Lena to be indoctrinated by the Cult. When Eve and Lena reconnect, the bond is briefly rekindled, but tragedy strikes—Cult soldiers throw grenades, killing Lena just as she begins to doubt her allegiance.

Outraged at Eve’s actions, the Chancellor contacts the Director and declares war between the Cult and the Ruska Roma. Seeking peace, the Director sends John Wick to eliminate Eve as a gesture of goodwill. John finds her in Hallstatt. Their brutal duel ends with John sparing her, offering her 30 minutes to kill the Chancellor before he must complete his contract.

In the final act, Eve storms through Hallstatt, now under siege. John kills Dex to save her life and fends off Cultists who attack him despite their truce. The Chancellor tries to flee with Ella but is stopped and executed by Eve, who rescues the girl in the process.

John reports the Chancellor’s death to the Director, ending the threat of war. Eve, now a fugitive with a bounty on her head, seeks shelter at the New York Continental, where she reunites Ella with a recovering Daniel Pine (revealed to have survived). Yet her freedom is short-lived—the Cult has placed a new bounty on her.

As the film closes, Eve sits in a dark theater watching Tatiana, a fellow Ruska Roma ballerina, perform. A message reaches her: the bounty is active. Without hesitation, Eve walks out, vanishing into the night—still dancing on the edge of vengeance.

Ballerina (2025) – Movie Review

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Genre: Action | Thriller | Neo-noir
Director: Len Wiseman
Starring: Ana de Armas, Norman Reedus, Gabriel Byrne, Anjelica Huston, Keanu Reeves

A Graceful Dance of Death in the World of John Wick

Ballerina, the latest spin-off from the John Wick universe, is a sleek, stylish, and emotionally charged action-thriller that adds depth and femininity to a franchise known for its brutal ballet of bullets. With Ana de Armas leading the film as the assassin Eve Macarro, Ballerina delivers a compelling mix of vengeance, vulnerability, and violence—all choreographed with the grace and precision of a pas de deux.

Story & Setting

Set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4, the film explores the origin of Eve, a ballerina-turned-killer trained by the Ruska Roma. With her family ties to a deadly cult and a sister she never knew, the story becomes not just a tale of revenge, but of identity, betrayal, and legacy. The narrative is surprisingly rich for a spin-off, balancing mythology-building with character development.

Director Len Wiseman keeps the tone consistent with the Wick universe—gritty, stylized, and steeped in shadowy underworld lore—while exploring new territory. The snowy streets of Hallstatt and the eerie calm of the Ruska Roma ballet academy add a fresh atmospheric layer to the otherwise bullet-ridden world.

Performances

Ana de Armas proves once again that she can carry an action film with intensity and charisma. She’s fierce and fragile in equal measure, bringing emotional weight to a role that easily could have been just another action heroine archetype.

Veterans like Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick (in his final screen appearance) lend gravitas and continuity to the franchise. Keanu Reeves makes a memorable appearance as John Wick, not as the centerpiece, but as a guiding force—almost mythic in his presence.

Action & Cinematography

The action is exactly what fans expect—elegant, vicious, and beautifully choreographed. From close-quarters combat to all-out firefights, Ballerina delivers with a refined yet brutal aesthetic. The Prague Continental shootout and the siege in Hallstatt stand out as cinematic highlights.

Cinematographer Paul Cameron captures the mood with neon hues, cold blues, and blood-stained whites, turning violence into art—a hallmark of the franchise.

Themes & Tone

Where John Wick is about grief and consequence, Ballerina is about vengeance and survival, filtered through a female perspective. The themes of sisterhood, loyalty, and choice are handled with surprising nuance, giving Eve a more emotional arc than any assassin since Wick himself.

Verdict

Ballerina is more than just a spin-off—it's a worthy entry in the John Wick saga that expands the universe while carving out its own path. With a gripping story, top-tier action, and a standout performance by Ana de Armas, it’s a thrilling and elegant addition to the ever-growing mythos.

Fans of the series will appreciate the familiar aesthetics and lore, while new viewers may find Eve's story a compelling entry point into the criminal ballet of this cinematic world.

Final Thought:

In Ballerina, vengeance takes center stage—and it dances beautifully.
