Directed by debutant Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, the film is headlined by megastar Shakib Khan in one of his most intense and layered roles to date. With a gripping narrative of love, betrayal, and retribution, the film combines commercial stylings with political commentary and emotional depth.

Plot Summary

The story centers on Ariyan Mirza (Shakib Khan), the arrogant and violent son of influential businessman-politician Adib Mirza (Misha Sawdagor). Ariyan's life spirals after falling in love with Nitu (Idhika Paul), a woman with a haunting past and deep-rooted hatred for his family. As romance turns into obsession and vengeance unravels long-buried secrets, Ariyan’s world collapses, culminating in a blood-soaked path of redemption and regret.

The Final Act sees Ariyan losing everything—his love, his freedom, and his father—ultimately surrendering to justice for a crime driven by rage and grief. The ending, though tragic, leaves a haunting impact and marks a bold narrative choice rarely seen in Dhallywood cinema.

Cast & Performances

  • Shakib Khan delivers a powerhouse performance as the tortured anti-hero, convincingly portraying Ariyan’s transformation from spoiled brat to remorseful avenger.
  • Idhika Paul plays Nitu with layered vulnerability and righteous fury, cementing her chemistry with Khan after their hit film Priyotoma.

Borbaad (2025) – Movie Review

⭐️ Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Borbaad is a bold, emotionally charged, and stylishly executed romantic action thriller that pushes the boundaries of Bangladeshi cinema. Directed by debutant Mehedi Hassan Hridoy, the film marks a significant milestone in Dhallywood, both for its ambitious production scale and for its powerful, vengeance-driven narrative.

Story & Screenplay

At its core, Borbaad is a tale of love, betrayal, and redemption wrapped in a high-voltage action drama. Ariyan Mirza (Shakib Khan), a spoiled rich heir with a dark past, spirals into chaos when his love for Nitu (Idhika Paul) is tested by truths that shake the foundation of his family. The film masterfully balances high-octane sequences with heart-wrenching emotional beats, particularly when Nitu reveals the harrowing story of her family's destruction at the hands of Ariyan’s father, Adib Mirza (Misha Sawdagor).

The screenplay doesn’t shy away from dark themes like political corruption, abuse of power, and trauma. Despite a few melodramatic turns, the writing remains gripping and emotionally potent throughout.

Direction & Technical Aspects

For a first-time feature director, Mehedi Hassan Hridoy showcases impressive control over the narrative and visual tone. The film is sleek and modern, thanks to Indian cinematographer Shailesh Awasthi, who captures both the grit and grandeur of Ariyan’s world.

Action sequences, choreographed by Ravi Varma, are visually thrilling, particularly the gunfight at Naved Khan’s residence and the final wedding raid. These scenes elevate the film's appeal for mainstream audiences.

Makeup and styling, handled by Amit Amberkar, lend a Bollywood-polished look, especially to Shakib Khan, whose multiple getups create strong visual impact.

Music

The soundtrack by Pritom Hasan is a standout, seamlessly weaving into the narrative. Tracks like Didha and Mohamaya hit the emotional core, while Chand Mama, featuring Nusrat Jahan in a fiery cameo, adds glamor and mass appeal. The background score by Arafat Mohsin enhances the film's emotional resonance and dramatic tension.

Final Thoughts

With Borbaad, Shakib Khan reinforces his status as a megastar who isn’t afraid to take risks, while director Mehedi Hassan Hridoy emerges as a fresh voice with a keen cinematic vision. This film isn’t just about revenge — it’s about love, loss, legacy, and the price of justice.

Highly recommended.

Borbaad (2025) – Full Story Summary

Opening:

The film opens with a high-octane chase sequence through the neon-lit streets of Dhaka. A sleek black car races through traffic, pursued by masked gunmen. Behind the wheel is Ariyan Mirza (Shakib Khan), heir to a political dynasty, clearly running from something—or someone. This thrilling intro sets the stage for a story of crime, redemption, and revenge.

Act 1: The Playboy Prince

Ariyan is introduced as a spoiled, impulsive, and carefree rich boy. Son of Adib Mirza (Misha Sawdagor), a powerful politician with a spotless public image but a sinister underbelly, Ariyan spends his days in clubs, racing cars, and getting into trouble. His life takes a turn when he meets Nitu (Idhika Paul), a beautiful but guarded girl working as a corporate trainer. Despite their differences, Ariyan is immediately drawn to her.

Nitu resists his advances at first, calling him arrogant and shallow. But Ariyan, used to getting what he wants, begins to change his behavior to win her over. He starts taking responsibility, trying to prove he's more than just a rich brat. Their bond slowly deepens, and romance blossoms.

Act 2: Truth in the Shadows

As their relationship matures, Nitu begins to open up about her past. She tells Ariyan about the tragic fate of her family: her father, Naved Khan (Mamunur Rashid), was a renowned journalist who was abducted and killed in a politically motivated attack. Her mother was driven to suicide, and she and her younger brother grew up in trauma and fear.

Eventually, Nitu reveals the painful truth: it was Adib Mirza, Ariyan’s father, who ordered the killing of her father to silence his reporting on corruption. This revelation shatters Ariyan’s world. Torn between his love for Nitu and loyalty to his father, Ariyan is plunged into an emotional crisis.

When Ariyan confronts Adib, the mask comes off. Adib Mirza admits to his crimes without remorse. “Power,” he says, “isn’t inherited—it’s taken. And I did what I had to.” Furious and heartbroken, Ariyan finally realizes the monster his father truly is.

Act 3: Descent into War

Meanwhile, another enemy looms: Farhan Rahman (Jisshu Sengupta), Adib’s former ally turned rival, a ruthless arms dealer and political fixer. Farhan, aware of Ariyan’s emotional turmoil, tries to recruit him to bring down Adib—but Ariyan refuses to be a pawn in someone else’s game.

Instead, Ariyan begins a solo mission of atonement. With the help of Nitu, he tracks down those involved in her father’s murder and systematically exposes or eliminates them. He uses his wealth and connections to gather evidence, hack into his father’s network, and expose the underbelly of Dhaka’s political elite.

Tragedy Strikes

Just when things seem to be coming together, tragedy hits: Nitu is kidnapped by Farhan as leverage. He offers Ariyan a deal—deliver his father’s secret files or lose Nitu forever. Ariyan chooses love over revenge and walks into Farhan’s den, only to find Nitu tortured but alive.

Ariyan outsmarts Farhan using a planted wire and a police sting, resulting in a brutal gunfight. He rescues Nitu but is badly injured. Farhan escapes, leaving room for future conflict.

Climax: The Fall of the King

The final confrontation takes place at Adib Mirza’s lavish private wedding celebration, where he’s set to marry a young, politically connected woman to strengthen his alliances. Ariyan, wounded but determined, crashes the event with a flash drive containing irrefutable proof of Adib’s crimes.

As the wedding guests watch in horror, Ariyan plays the video: torture, bribery, and confessions. The media broadcast it live. Adib is arrested on the spot, screaming that his son is a traitor. “You’ve destroyed our legacy,” he yells.

Ariyan simply replies: “No. I’ve ended your curse.”

Epilogue: Redemption

Months later, Ariyan lives a quiet life, away from politics and wealth. He works with Nitu at her NGO helping survivors of political violence. The once-arrogant prince has become a man of purpose.

In the final scene, Ariyan visits his father in jail. Adib sits silently, aged and broken. They lock eyes—no words are exchanged. Ariyan walks away, finally free.

THE END

Borbaad isn’t just a story of action and revenge—it’s a personal reckoning. It explores what it means to confront inherited evil, and whether one man can break the cycle of violence and corruption. The title Borbaad ("Destroyed") reflects not just the fall of a corrupt empire, but the destruction of one man’s false identity—and his rebirth into something greater.
