Vikrant Rona is a visually ambitious and thematically layered action thriller that merges folklore, supernatural mystery, and revenge drama. Directed by Anup Bhandari, the film succeeds in creating an eerie, immersive atmosphere, especially through its rainforest setting and haunting cinematography. Sudeepa (also known as Kichcha Sudeep) delivers a compelling performance as the brooding and resilient inspector Vikrant Rona, balancing emotional vulnerability with action-hero grit.
The first half builds tension effectively with cryptic clues, creepy visuals, and a sense of something sinister lurking beneath the surface. The 3D visuals are impressive, enhancing the gothic and mythological overtones of the story. The sound design and background score further elevate the suspense.
However, the film occasionally falters with pacing issues and an overly complicated narrative structure. Multiple subplots—ranging from caste-based bullying to hallucinations and generational trauma—sometimes dilute the core mystery. Jacqueline Fernandez's appearance feels more like a commercial addition than a narrative necessity.
The twist involving Vikrant’s hallucinated daughter is emotionally impactful and gives weight to the character’s motivations, but might not resonate equally with all viewers due to the film's scattered focus. Despite its flaws, Vikrant Rona deserves credit for its ambition and stylistic storytelling in the Kannada film landscape.

📖 Full Story / Plot Summary of Vikrant Rona 📖
In a remote rainforest village called Kamarottu, a string of child kidnappings and murders is linked to an ancient local tale about a Brahmarakshasa. The village is gripped by fear and superstition. Inspector Vikrant Rona arrives with his daughter, Guddi, to investigate the mysterious deaths, starting with a murdered cop found beheaded in a well.
As Vikrant delves into the case, he uncovers a history of caste discrimination, school bullying, and betrayal. Decades earlier, Nittoni, a temple caretaker, was falsely accused of stealing jewels. The shame drove him and most of his family to suicide. The surviving son, Madhava, grows up seeking revenge and adopts the identity of Lawrence Pinto, a local teacher. With the help of his brother Raghava—posing as Sanju—he targets and kills the children of those who tormented his family.
As the mystery unfolds, Vikrant is confronted with his own guilt—his daughter, Guddi, was murdered in the same pattern, and her appearances were hallucinations born of trauma. His wife lies comatose, making his quest not just about duty, but personal vengeance.
The climax reveals that Sanju is actually Raghava in disguise. A final confrontation ends with Madhava and Raghava’s deaths. Vikrant protects the family’s honor by concealing Raghava's fate from his mother.
The film closes with Vikrant finding closure, having avenged his daughter and uncovered the tragic truth behind the village’s haunted legacy.
